This is an 11th -12th century Viking sword with carvings based on well known art from that era. The belt loop is carved of stag antler and is inspired by the famous chessmen of Lewis, Viking chess pieces found here in Scotland. The artwork of the scabbard and grip is based on the door panels of the Urnes church in Norway, which set the standard of 'Urnes' style decoration. The creatures seem to depict a herd of deer. Type X swords were usually less ornate and more of a common man's weapon, so common materials were chosen for the hilt and scabbard - steel, copper, antler, and oak. It has a wonderful balance for this type of Viking sword, due to the thickness of the hand forged blade near the hilt in comparison to it's thinness near the tip. The blade is high carbon German steel, hardened, tempered, hollow ground, hand polished, and sharpened.

Blade 31.75" (81 cm), 38" (96.5 cm) overall, balance point 4.5" from hilt

Sword weighs 1.3 kg, 2 lbs. 13 oz.
