This one-of-a-kind artistic piece was inspired by the archaeological discovery of a 'serpentine' Viking ship at the bottom of Loch Ness. Coupled with the idea of the legendary plesiosaurus who is said to roam about in the loch, one's imagination can easily drift into the murky deeps of the past. The sunken vessel contained a Viking chieftain buried with his spear, shield, and 'a beautifully hilted sword'. These things in mind, the Nessie Hunter was hand crafted historically accurate and true to the old methods of the Viking smiths. The sea monster is seen protruding to form the belt loop on the Bird's Eye Maple scabbard. Other carvings, and the subtle engravings in the blade fuller, were inspired by the sea creature motifs which decorate the Oseberg Viking ship. The high carbon, hardened and tempered steel blade is sharpenened. An iron inlaid maker's name, VOGIE, is forge welded into the fuller on one side, shrouded in mystery by the acid etched engravings. The 'Type H' bronze hilt is of inlaid copper and sterling silver twisted wires, with a hammer wrought finish. Carved Ebony wood grip. Price includes scabbard.
