This stunning Claymore is based on the visible elements of a 1539 tomb slab found on the western isle of Oronsay.
The Stag, Lion and Unicorn, and galley ship are all incorporated in the carved work of the scabbard.
Because Viking artifacts and even a buried Viking ship have also been found on Oronsay, the hilt of this sword is an attempt to show this early Viking influence.
Sterling silver inlaid interlace patterns and sterling twisted wires are Viking decoration while the rest of the hilt is standard Claymore style.
Traditional in Claymores, the handle and scabbard are Bog Oak.
The steel of the hilt and scabbard fittings are black oxide finished to bring out the contrast of the sterling silver.
The blade is high carbon steel, hardened and tempered, 3/4 length fullered and hollow ground.
39.5" (100 cm) blade, 52" (132 cm) overall, balance point 4" from hilt
weighs 2.65 kg, 5lb. 13 oz. (sword only)
