This singe hand 'arming' sword is based upon dipictions of a unique 7 lobed pommel with angled crossguard found on 14th century tomb slabs all over the West Highlands of Scotland. None of this particular hilt style have ever been found in archeaology, likely due to the fact that the Highlanders converted most of their heirloom medieval blades into Basket Hilt Broadswords in the 18th century. Many of the best stone carvings showing that this sword once existed are located at Kilmartin. All the carvings in both the bronzework and woodwork were carefully copied out by hand from the medieval stone carvings at Kilmartin and incorporated into the hilt and scabbard. For more info on this sword project, refer to my 'work in progress' pages, blog entries in January and February, 2020. The blade is hardened and tempered high carbon steel, with bronze fittings and ebony wood grip, Tiger Maple scabbard.
