This short sword is based on a 9th century stone carving found on a sarcophagus at Govan, in Glasgow, Scotland. The carving shows a Pictish warrior on horseback sporting what appears to be a 9th century, Viking age Type F hilt, short double bladed side arm. No known historical examples of the real thing exist, other than what is carved in the stone. In recreating this sword, carving designs were taken from the scenes and knotwork patterns of the ancient stonework. The Pictish warrior was likely a wealthy shepherd, judging from the scenes of herding dog, lambs, rams, and goats. Interpretations of these were incorporated into the carvings of the Ebony wood grip and Beech scabbard, with a Ram's heid beltloop in Ebony. The steel of the type F hilt has Viking style copper inlays with an antiqued finish. The blade is fully hardened and tempered high carbon steel.
