Future projects

Getting a head start on the next few projects by making models for bronze castings. These two hilts from the Viking age are a type H and a type L. The models are carved out of wood and will be used to make a depression in both halves of a sand casting flask. When the molten bronze is poured in to the empty cavity, it will take the same shape. I prefer to add detail after the casting rather than before. The upper guard and pommel are together in the picture but are two separate pieces that will be riveted together once cast in bronze.

I have also begun a Late Viking Age type X crossguard and pommel, hammered out in steel.
