Forging a Claymore crossguard

The unique crossguard with downward angled quillions and ring quatrefoils can be tricky to make by blacksmithing. It's done in two parts, this first one I'll call the crossguard, and then the toungues/collar will slip down over the top. For strength, the crossguard is best forged from a solid piece of steel. I'm using a 1" square bar.

Keeping the squareness but leaving some on the end for the quatrefoils.

Then flattening the ends...

Bending in the centre to get the angled quillions...

Drilling holes, grinding...

Carving and grinding out the ring quatrefoils...
