Archeaology has found so little when it comes to swords from the past, especially here in Scotland. Even amongst the famous Claymores, very little remains to be seen in museums, and there's a few in private collections. Most were ground down over the years and the hilts were refashioned to take on the styles of later weapons. For my next project, I really want to try to resurrect a single handed Scottish sword with a seven lobed pommel. No sword like this exists that I know of, but it's image frequently appears on medieval post-Viking Age tomb slabs. The seven lobed pommel shows an obvious adaptation from the earlier five lobed pommels of the Vikings. The sword depicted on tombs also shows angled quillions, distinctive of the medieval Scottish arming sword.
