Carved in the rough shape of a rope looking pattern in the Ebony wood grip. Little evidence exists of wood grips that have survived 700 years in Scotland, but this pattern was commonly found on dirks from the 1600's and could easily have been similar to what was used on a Scottish sword in the 1300's.
